Beowulf

Loyalty is value in Beowulf. "I remember that time when mead was flowing, how we pleged loyalty to our lord in the hall," (2634-2635) This is said by one of Beowulf's loyal soldiers remembering his pledge to Beowulf. "Your deeds are famous, so stay resolute, my lord, defend your life now with the whole of your strength. I shall stand by you." (2666-2668) This is said by Wiglaf as he stands by Beowulf during his encounter with the dragon as the other soldiers leave.

This story differs from the other stories in several ways. In this story Beowulf is King of the Geats. Beowulf is becoming an old man. His new foe is a far more difficult challenge to him compared to the other past foes. Beowulf defeats his foe eventually but is killed in the process when the dragon wounds him. "When a chance came, he caught the hero in a rush of flame and clamped sharp fangs into his neck." (2691-2693)

Beowulf's death would be considered honorable because he died fighting for his people and his land. He also accomplished his mission which was to slay the dragon making the land safe.

Beowulf

A value in the society is heroism. In order for the people or more specifically the men in the society to be accepted they have to become a warrior. "After Hrothgar became king he won many battles: his freinds and family willinglly obeyed him; his childhood freinds became famous soldiers." (prologue) Hrothgar king of the Danes won his people's hearts after winning battles.

Another value is taking trophies. In the battle between Grendel and Beowulf, Beowulf tore off Grendel's arm because Grendel was trying to break free of beowulf's grip. After confirming Grendel's death, they took hhis arm and hung it in Hrothgar's mead hall. "The foe was too powerful in his going. However, he left behind his hand to save his life, and his arm and shoulder, though that won't buythe wretch much comfort." (Adventures of Beowulf Episode, 5)

Kennings: "The warriors bore into the ship's bosom bright weapons, fitted armor." (Grendel Attacks) This is simply saying that the warriors went into the ships hull. "Who are you, in armor, who come over the sea-road" (Grendel Attacks) The sea road refers to sailing over the sea.
"Poets sang sad songs throughout the world," (Grendel Attacks) This alliteration adds a sad effect to the line. "The foamy-necked shipwent out like a birdso that the next day its curved prowhad gone so farthat the seafarers saw land, shining shore cliffsand steep mountains." (Beowulf Hears of Grendel) The alliteration in this line helps to make it better to picture what Grendel and his crew see.

Beowulf
One of the values in Beowulf is revenge. This is a big one because Grendel's mom comes and attacks the Danes in the mead hall and retrieves her son's arm. She also kills one of the king's best friends. In her attack she makes the king want to retaliate against her. "Wise sir, do not grieve. It is always best to avenge those dear to you then it is to indulge in mourning." (1384-1385) This is the advice Beowulf gives to the king mourning about his good friend's death.
Another big value is taking trophies after a victorious fight. After defeating Grendel's mom Beowulf takes Grendel's head as a trophy back to the mead hall.
An unrealistic thing in the story is Grendal's mom. When she attacked the hall she killed a lot of people. This in turn enraged Beowulf who sought out to kill her.
"Rest? What is rest? Sorrow has returned." (1322) King Hrothgar said this to Beowulf when Beowulf returned. This quote helps add on to the emotions in the meade hall. Everyone is obviously shocked, scared and angry.
"Wise sir, do not grieve. It is always best to avenge those dear to you then it is to indulge in mourning." (1385) This quote adds on to the story because Beowulf is basically saying that they should go and kill this creature that attacked them. This quote sets the stage for the hunt for Grendel's mom.

Creon

The images that keep coming to me in the text is the images of Antigone burying her brother and The Gods. "You're going to bury Polyneices," (56) This brings out the image of Antigone burying her brother because it is said by Ismene after Antigone tells her. "Consider how our father died, hated and disgraced," (61-62) This is how Polyneices just died as hated and disgraced. Probably the same way Antigone will die when people know of her burying her brother. The importance of the image of Antigone burying her brother is very important because that is what the conflict in the story is all about.
"Zeus did not announce those laws to me. And justice living with the gods below sent no such law for men." (450-452) This is very true. This quote makes me wonder what the gods must think looking down at this scene. "Let Zeus know the god who watches over everything, I would not stay silent if I saw disaster moving here against the citizens a threat to their security." (180-186) The gods or in this case god are always refered to as a way to show the enforcement to what they say. The gods are always or mostly talked about in Greek stories. They are big figures mostly mentioned at dire moments.
The character Creon has natural fatal flaws. His pride is one of his flaws and probably his bigest flaw. "Now that I have everything." (498) This would actually helps increase his pride. A very good scene with his pride going loose his when he and his son Haemon have a argument. "You'll regret parading what you think like this-you-a person with an empty brain!" (754)
Creon realizes his flaw when his son Haemon dies. Creon has a sudden turn of events after he speaks with the blind prophet and the prophet tells Creon what will happen. The Carthasis in this play is when Creon's son dies while his son tries to kill him.
Women in this play are characterized as how they are characterized traditionally but they carry out their duty in this story even if the stakes are high. Antigone buried her brother even if she risked death. "What you're going to bury Polyneices," (45) In a way Antigone could be a hero because she helped Creon realize his crime. "Then take this foolish man away from here. I killed you, my son, without intending to, and you, as well, my wife. How useless I am now. I don’t know where to look or find support. Everything I touch goes wrong, and on my head fate climbs up with its overwhelming load." (1329-1348)

The Thebe Press
One days ago Antigony buried her traitorous brother Polynieces. She was seen by a sentry who wishes to remain annonymous. Antigony claims she was doing the right thing by giving her brother a proper burial, even if he performed a crime of very high treason. King Creon himself declared that all enemies of the state shall not recieve proper burial.
Even with this decree in action, his niece Antigony, still buried her brother. It is believed that Polynieces' body was buried somewhere in the hills north of Thebes. The punishment for Princess Antigony has not yet been decided. The King hasn't decided to begin a search for Polynieces' body to be unburied.
It is also believed that Antigony's sister Ismene was also involved in this case. Now there is concerns about the new law not being moral. A prophet even believes that this law will cause problems throughout the kingdom.

My First Real Blog

What were my previous experiences with technology?
It is ok and bad. Technology has given me more ways of entertainment. As well as more ways of frustration! My great experiences with technology is playing games and watching videos on Youtube. My worst experiences is getting pop ups, losing files, and internet not working correctly. Besides that technology has become my best friend/worst enemy.

What were my first impressions on setting up my new blog?
I was very excited and nervous. I was excited because I never really made my own blog before, so it would have been a new experience. The idea of having other people read my work makes me nervous. I usually do work under the impression that only my teachers or thier T.A.'s are going to read or correct my work.

How do I think technology could work in school?
I think it will be both good and bad. It will allow us to do things in a different way. People would probably be more expressive and creative. The downside would be when technology isn't working correctly, or technology is missing. Not everybody has a computer with internet. So this could complicate things for those people.
